The electrode areas of the wearlink belt detect your heart rate.
The centre wearlink module transmits your heart rate signal to your wrist receiver.
How to put your transmitter on:
Moisten the electrode areas of the belt under running water and make sure they both are thoroughly wet before putting on.
Attach the module to the belt. Make note of the ends of the belt marked left L and right R.
Adjust the strap length to fit snugly and comfortably around your chest just below the chest muscles.
Check that the wet electrode areas are firmly against your skin and that the Polar logo of the module is central in an upright position.
How to unfasten the WearLink Transmitter
Polar WearLink transmitter has two parts: the WearLink chest strap and the WearLink connector. The WearLink is designed to ensure secure connection throughout exercise. It enables the electrodes to remain in a fixed position. Because of the need for secure fastening, you may need to apply some force to unfasten the transmitter strap from the connector, especially when the WearLink is new.
Follow the procedure below to unfasten the transmitter.
Hold the transmitter firmly with your left hand, the transmitter Polar logo facing you (see picture 1).
With your right-hand thumb, hold the strap by the plastic part of the chest strap. From this position unfasten the strap by twisting it off the transmitter (see picture 2).
The unfastening procedure will not damage the transmitter as the clips are designed to withstand the twisting force.
Care and Maintenance of your transmitter:
Centre Module Connectors
Clean the module connector regularly after use with a mild soap and water solution. ie. this means that the belt has to regularly unclipped from the module.
Failure to regularly unclip and remove the wearlink belt then clean the press studs, can cause a build up of material in this area causing a corrosion in the stud. This will make the belt extremely hard to remove, cause the stud to break off and degrade the performance of the wearlink transmitter.
Detach the transmitter connector from the strap and rinse the strap under running water after every use. Dry the connector with a soft towel. Never use alcohol or any abrasive material (steel, wool or cleaning chemicals).
Wearlink belt or strap
Wash the strap regularly in a washing machine at 40ºC/104ºF or at least after every fifth use. This ensures reliable measurement and maximizes the life span of the transmitter. Never put the transmitter centre module in the washing machine or drier!
Dry and store the strap and the transmitter centre module separately. Wash the strap in a washing machine before long-term storage, and always after use in pool water with high chlorine content.
Do not use detergent with bleach or fabric softener.
Use a washing pouch.
Do not spin dry the belt/strap.
Do not put the belt/strap in a dryer.
Do not iron the belt/strap.
Failure to regularly clean and wash your wearlink transmitter will degrade it's performance and life. This is not a factory manufacturing fault and will not be covered under the Polar limited warranty conditions. If you do experience problems with picking up your heart rate and it has been worn and maintained as stated, we always suggest that a second person try using it before it is returned for servicing.
Maintenance
Store your transmitter in a cool dry place. Do not store it in any kind of non-breathing material such as a plastic bag or sports bag if it is wet. Note. Sweat and moisture can keep its electrodes wet and the transmitter activated which shortens the battery life.
Keep your transmitter out of extreme cold (below -10°C) and heat (above +50°C).
Do not expose to direct sunlight for extended periods, such as leaving in a car.
Batteries
The estimated battery life of the transmitter is 2 years (1 hr/day, 7 days/week).
If the transmitter stops working it may be due to the battery running low. During the warranty period we recommend that the battery is replaced by a Polar Service Centre.
Note. Warranty does not cover damage or consequential damage caused by service performed by a non-authorised service centre.
Precautions:
If you are allergic to any substance that comes in contact with the skin or if you suspect an allergic reaction due to using this product, refer to the products Technical Specifications. To avoid any skin reaction risk with the transmitter, wear it over a shirt that has been thoroughly moistened under the electrodes to ensure flawless operation.
Using the transmitter in a water enviroment
The wearlink transmitter is water resistance to 30 metres. Users measuring heart rate in a water enviroment may experience interference and abnormal readings for the following reasons:
Pool water with a high chlorine content and seawater are very conductive. The electrodes of the strap may be short-circuited and prevent EKG signals being detected by the module.
Jumping into water or strenuous muscle movement during competitive swimming, may cause water resistance that shifts the transmitter on the body to a location where it is not possible to pick up the EKG signal.
The EKG signal strength varies depending on the individual's tissue composition and the percentage of people who have problems in heart rate measuring is considerably higher in a water enviroment than in other use.
