How to transfer settings using Polar PPP4 software UpLink option

    Transferring settings

  • On the Tools menu, select Connection or click the Connection button on the toolbar.

  • In the Infrared Connection window, click the Skip button.

  • In the wrist unit connection window, select the appropriate page and adjust your settings.

  • Select the CONNECT mode in the wrist unit.

  • Place the wrist unit in front of the computer speaker no further than 10 cm / 4" away.

  • Click the Transfer button in the bottom left corner of the page.

The computer transfers the adjusted settings from the active page to the wrist unit. During transfer, the speakers will make a quiet, high-pitch sound.

In order to use Polar UpLink option you need to have a sound card and dynamic loudspeakers as the software utilizes the magnetic field generated by the audio transmission. (ie. desktop type loudspeakers that have a magnet and voice coil producing a magnetic field - solid state type devices which produce sound, that maybe found in laptops, will not work).

  • When you have completed the information exchange, click the Close button.

Do not move the wrist unit during data transmission.

If the data transmission is not successful, move the wrist unit closer to the speaker. You can also attempt to improve the connection quality by increasing the sound volume.

If desired, you can automatically switch the wrist unit from CONNECT mode to Watch mode after transferring the settings to the wrist unit.

  • Select Options – Preferences, and open the Hardware page. Click the Options button. Check Set to Watch mode when closing connection.

Now when you have the wrist unit in front of the speaker and close the wrist unit connection window, the software automatically switches the wrist unit back to Watch mode.

Transfer data from PC to your heart rate monitor via UpLink

As above, select your model of Polar HRM in the "Uplink" dropdown box then OK.
Select Tools/HR monitor connection or click on the icon of the hrm below "Tools".

    Exercise set

The Polar S-series Heart Rate Monitors allow you to create and save different types of exercises i.e. exercise sets. An exercise set can be created for either basic training or interval exercise. Basic training refers to an even-paced exercise, which lacks the recovery periods characteristic to interval exercise. The sets include various data of the exercise e.g. the duration of the warm-up and workout periods and the exercise heart rates used in them.

The heart rate monitor provides guidance during the exercise with audible and, in some models, symbolic signals. The settings can be adjusted either with the computer and then transferred to the heart rate monitor via UpLink or they can be altered manually with the buttons on the heart rate monitor.

How to upload exercise sets and monitor icons?

    1. Start from the heart rate monitor display showing time of day. Scroll up or down until CONNECT (OPTIONS in Polar S120, Polar S150 and Polar S210) is displayed.

    2. Place the monitor less than 10 cm/ 4" from the loudspeaker.

    3. Select the icon or exercise session you want to upload to your Polar S-series Heart Rate Monitor and click the link.

The monitor automatically starts to upload the information. UpLink and COM appear on the monitor display. You will hear a chirping sound while information is transferred to your heart rate monitor.

Do not move the monitor during the data transfer.

    4. All settings are transferred completely to the receiver when 100 % is displayed.

    5. If the data transfer was unsuccessful bring the receiver closer to the loudspeakers or turn the volume level of the loudspeakers up.

    6. Press and hold the stop button to return the Time of day display.

-If you downloaded a monitor icon it is now visible.
-If not, press and hold upper right button to change display from Date -> User name -> User ID -> Icon.
-If you downloaded a sample exercise session see your user's manual for further instructions how to work out according to this exercise set.

    Notes:

    • SonicLink (from the HRM to the PC) is completely based on sound (the computer's microphone picks up the sound signal and converts it back to data), thus it is more sensitive for surrounding noise.

    • UpLink (From the PC to the HRM) is based on magnetic radiation produce by the speaker coil; HR monitor picks up the magnetic changes and transforms them into data. (It is not the sound but the radiated magnetic field from the speaker coil that transfers the data).
If you are having troubles uplinking data and the speaker is making a "chirping" sound, check that the speaker is not a solid state device which does not produce any magnetic radiation ie. which may be found in a laptop.
