Aerobic Threshold (AeT)
Aerobic threshold is not as widely used concept as anaerobic threshold in predicting performance in aerobic exercise. In Polar Precision Performance software it is called the lower threshold. It is the intensity level at which lactate begins to accumulate in the body, but can be processed e.g. decomposed to unharmful products.

Aerobic threshold can be defined in maximal exercise stress test in laboratory conditions, and estimated in e.g.

Conconi test. In laboratory, it can be seen on the lactate curve and breathing gas analysis graph.

In maximal exercise stress test several criteria are used to defind aerobic threshold:

- heart rate is 40 (40-60) bpm lower than maximum heart rate, but can vary +/- 10 bpm depending on your seasonal and training state

- lactate value begins to raise from the lowest value; often it is close to 1.5 (1.0-2.0) mmol/l
- there is first clear increase in ventilation

In training, aerobic threshold can be used as a guiding line in endurance training, especially in the long distance sports.
